The Arboretum is the prominent one among the protected natural sites of local significance. It was established 125 years ago, by István Chernel, a Kőszeg-born naturalist with a European reputation. The most valuable item of the arboretum is the Pseudolarix, of which this is the only mature specimen in Hungary. The park is the venue of the only educational trail in Hungary presenting the most endangered plant species of the Pannonian Basin. The preservation and propagation of West Transdanubia’s plant species in danger of extinction takes place next to the educational trail presenting the protected plant species.
